Guidance for new employees and coping with hurtful family dynamics.
DJ: Hi guys! Did you spend your whole day acting like a total "social pro" today? On the outside youâre smiling, but on the inside, youâre feeling lost and wondering, "Am I even doing this right?" Today, weâre going to look into our inner heartsâthe parts that are still clumsy because everything is new, and the parts that hurt more because they're close to home.
DJ: Our first story is from 'Newbie Employee.' "Iâm a new hire, just 3 months in. Iâm constantly nervous and making mistakes, and my heart drops whenever a senior says even one thing to me. All my other peers seem to be adjusted and getting praised, while I feel like Iâm the only one stuck. Iâm so scared of making mistakes that I don't even want to get off the subway for work. Will it really get better with time?"
DJ: Oh, 'Newbie'... I feel for you so much. I think everyone makes mistakes at the beginning. Comparing yourself to others might give you a tiny bit of motivation for a second, but if you keep doing it, going to work will just feel like hellâespecially since you're already scared of messing up. Instead of trying to grow or get better right away, I suggest having the mindset of just being "better than I was yesterday." Honestly, when you try way too hard to be perfect, you actually end up making more mistakes. So don't put too much pressure on yourself. Just do your best with whatâs in front of you, and I promise youâll see great results later.
Also, even if you make a mistake, being hard on yourself doesn't change anything. It might even backfire. So even when you slip up, try not to scold yourself too much. Just be patient with yourself and wait. Time keeps flowing, and as it goes by, you're definitely going to become a better version of yourself. You got this!
DJ: Letâs move right into our second story from 'Fragile Youngest.' "I get hurt so easily by the careless things my family says. They say things like, 'Why are you so sensitive?' or 'Iâm saying this because I care,' while putting down my dreams or my personality. If it were a stranger, I could just stop seeing them, but since it's family, I have to see them every day and the hurt just won't go away. I feel so alone because the people who should be on my side are the ones hurting me the most."
DJ: The pain you get from family is on a whole different level compared to friends or colleagues; itâs much deeper and bigger. Especially when they hide behind the excuse of "caring for you" to say things that are so careless and hurtful. Like you said, you canât just cut off family like you would a stranger since you see them every day. So thereâs a limit to how much you can just grin and bear it.
I believe even family is a relationship between two people, and if you hold it all in, itâs eventually going to ruin that relationship. Itâll only leave you mentally drained. Next time they put down your dreams or personality, I really want you to be firm and tell them that it hurts you and youâd like them to stop. Or, if itâs too much, you don't have to keep the conversation goingâjust go into your room and secure your own space. Clear your head in your own space first, and then try talking to them about your feelings more rationally. You aren't "sensitive"âyouâre just a delicate person.
[Closing]
DJ: A new job that feels strange, and relationships that are hard because they're close... it was a pretty tough day, wasn't it? But even through all that, youâre becoming a little bit stronger. I really hope the songs I recommended today help you find your center and get even tougher! I hope you can have some peaceful "me-time" while listening to these.
I'll see you guys in the next episode. Bye!
