Discusses solo living loneliness and burnout, offering coping suggestions.
[Intro]
DJ: Hi guys! Were you happy when you finally got your own "personal space"? Even if it's the independence you desperately wanted, there's a certain loneliness that creeps in when you walk into a dark, empty room by yourself. On the flip side, you might have just been running forward, but one morning you suddenly feel so helpless that you don't even want to lift a finger. Today, I’ve brought stories from two people who feel temporarily lost in their own space, or in their own race.
DJ: Our first story is from 'Corner Loner.' "I’m a newbie in my 6th month of living alone, finally free from my parents' nagging. The first month or two was amazing and felt so liberating. But lately, whenever I come home from work to a pitch-black house, my chest feels tight. Lying in bed after eating takeout, this intense loneliness washes over me, making me feel like I’m the only one left in the world. I feel so pathetic for missing my parents' place. Am I just not cut out for living alone?"
DJ: Man... I think anyone who has lived alone has cried at least once while staring at their wallpaper. 'Loner,' living alone means you are completely responsible for your own life, not just moving spaces, so it’s totally natural to feel empty and lonely at first. Missing your family home isn't pathetic—it’s just a deeply human emotion!
In my opinion, forcing yourself to hang out with friends every day or staying up late watching YouTube to escape the loneliness might help switch your focus short-term. But if you don't learn how to fill the time you spend by yourself, you'll just end up more mentally drained from the emptiness when you come back home. Instead of leaving your loneliness "unattended," why not create a cozy routine just for yourself? Turn on a pretty mood light, put out a diffuser with your favorite scent, or play some background music. Once you start filling your space with things you love, that loneliness will slowly turn into comfort.
DJ: Next up, 'Frozen Pendulum.' "I’ve always been the type to try and live a 'productive life,' whether it was for school or extra activities. People around me always praised me for working hard. But recently, after wrapping up a huge project, it feels like my entire energy tank went completely empty. I have a mountain of work piling up, but even when I sit at my computer, I just stare blankly at the screen. I feel so helpless and guilty. I know I need to force myself to move, but I feel like a car out of gas—the engine just won't start."
DJ: Ugh... it looks like you’ve been paid a visit by burnout, which is basically a badge of honor for someone who has run as hard as you have. 'Pendulum,' this doesn't mean you've become lazy. Because you’ve been squeezing out 200% of your energy instead of just 100%, your brain and body are officially declaring a strike, saying, "Please, let us rest."
But in my opinion, forcing yourself to pull all-nighters and grabbing onto work because you feel anxious about a backlog might keep you going short-term. But over time, it’s only going to push you into a deeper slump and you might completely crash mentally. What you need right now isn't a whip—it’s a complete 'Off' switch. For a few days, throw away all productive thoughts and just zone out or sleep. When your energy is at zero, refilling it comes first. Squeezing more out will only break your engine. You’ve worked so hard, so give yourself a legal vacation. You got this!
[Closing]
DJ: Enduring the cold loneliness of your own space, and giving yourself the courage to pause after running so hard... none of this is easy, but it feels like a necessary station we must pass through to move forward healthier. Tonight, let go of the anxiety and the heavy loneliness, and just take a much-needed break for yourself. You know my inbox is always open, so feel free to share your stories anytime.
See you next episode. Bye!
